Wait, How Much Do YouTubers Really Make?

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? If you’re a millennial, probably a marine biologist or a power ranger. For this up-and-coming generation, the answer is a little different: 29% want to be a YouTuber. With 15 million active creators on YouTube, and 321,000 channels with 100,000 subscribers or more, it’s safe to say there’s a better chance of making it big online than working with dolphins. But how many earn a living, and what are the factors involved when it comes to monetizing your platform?

Let’s peek behind the curtain and consider some of the ways in which creators make money on YouTube. Between the YouTube Partner Program, ad revenue-sharing, Super Chat and Stickers, channel memberships, etc., the platform is making it easier than ever to forge your own path. Let’s explore some of the metrics together.

Little Extras

🚨 This is not a drill. YouTube is making it easier than ever to earn money online by lowering its eligibility requirements. This is big news for creators with smaller fish in the creator pond.

🧔 “Dadfluencers” don’t have dad bods, they have father figures. Not only that, they are taking over the content space online. Sorry kids, they’re our dads now.

🎯  Marketing is changing, and it’s all revolving around creator-led content. From Google’s introduction of Perspectives to TikTok as a search engine, this is why creators are the future.

📃 Has the US Senate found a middle ground for TikTok? Instead of a full-on ban, this bill proposes that apps exporting US data should need to apply for a license or face the consequences.

📹 Feeling nostalgic for internet days long past? Try livestreaming. In an age of clicks and swipes, creators are enjoying the simplicity (and reward) of going live for their followers.

🚫  Creators were about to boycott Twitch after new content guidelines, but after some heated Twitter threads and conversations among creators, the platform made revisions.

🤝 Exposure is everything online and this new YouTube Shorts Creator Community could be the ticket to more views, a stronger network, and support as you grow your channel.

🥽 For your meme consideration: Apple Vision Pro, the Barbie movie, and Pedro Pascal in shorts are just some examples of what the internet is loving right now.

TikTok’s Paywall Feature Opens to More Creators

In early 2023, TikTok introduced a new program called the Creativity Program Beta. Just a few months later in March, the platform announced another means for creators to earn money: a paywalled content feature called Series. Basically, your own VIP room to share exclusive, high-quality content with your most devoted followers.

This opened up a lot of exciting possibilities for monetization, but only a select few were able to test the waters. Good news: TikTok is finally making this feature more widely accessible. The eligibility requirements include being over 18, having an account at least 30 days old, and abiding by TikTok’s Community Guidelines. Curious if you qualify? Want to know more about this new trend of paywalled content? Let’s take a gander.
